Receding Hairline: What Are Your Best Treatment Options?

by | Sep 23, 2022 | Blog

  1. If you’re experiencing a receding hairline, then you’re not alone – millions of people around the world are affected by hair loss. Fortunately, there are plenty of treatments available to help minimise the appearance of a receding hairline and boost your confidence. From hair transplants to scalp micropigmentation and concealing spray, this article will explore several treatment options to try.

    What causes a receding hairline?

Hair loss is a common issue that has several causes. It’s helpful to identify the underlying reason for your thinning hair so you can select the most effective treatment.

For some, genetics play a role – this is often the case for men experiencing male pattern baldness, and it’s usually a natural part of aging. However, contrary to popular belief, thinning hair can also impact women. A receding hairline may be caused by changes in hormone levels, for example during menopause or after childbirth.

Emotional, physical, or psychological stress can also contribute to hair loss as can certain medical conditions such as thyroid issues.

  4. Treatment options for a receding hairline

In an attempt to stimulate hair growth, prevent further hair loss or to disguise their thinning hair, a significant number of derma.microtech clients have previously experimented with a variety of different hair loss treatments before they arrive at our clinic.

The daily use of topical sprays and medication and/or the ongoing clinic-based procedures such as PRP and micro needling to stimulate hair growth all require a significant investment of time and money. In our experience the two most popular treatments, with the most successful outcomes, are hair transplants and/or scalp micropigmentation.

Whether you want a temporary or permanent solution, here are some hair loss options to explore.

    Hair transplant

A hair transplant involves a trichologist (scalp expert) surgeon removing healthy hair follicles from an area of your head where the hair is thick. They’ll then transplant the follicles into the thinning areas. The transplanted follicles will then begin to grow new hair, leading to permanent regrowth in most cases.

It’s important to note that not all patients are candidates for this procedure. So if you’re considering a hair transplant, be sure to consult with a doctor or surgeon to see if you’re a good fit.

  1. Scalp micropigmentation

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a popular and effective way to restore the appearance of hair. A qualified practitioner will deposit micro dots of pigment into the scalp, replicating the look of hair follicles.

Although SMP is often described as a hairline tattoo, it involves unique machines, pigments, and micro needles that have been specially designed to navigate the scalp, which is rich in blood vessels. An SMP needle also doesn’t penetrate the skin as deeply as a regular tattoo needle.

As well as being highly customisable – you can build up the level of micropigmentation to achieve a look you desire – SMP results can last as long as five years.

  2. PRP therapy

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a safe and effective treatment that uses your own blood to stimulate hair growth. During the procedure, a specialist will draw a small amount of your blood then place it in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the other blood cells. They’ll then inject the resulting platelet-rich plasma into your scalp, where it will help stimulate new hair growth.

As well as reducing the appearance of a receding hairline, PRP therapy can also help to thicken existing hair and improve your overall scalp health.

    Hair loss concealer spray

If you’re looking for a less invasive option, you might want to consider hair loss concealer spray. A little like spray paint, these thickening fibres, made from keratin, can help reduce the appearance of thinning hair. They give the illusion of thicker, fuller hair and are a temporary solution you can wash out with shampoo at the end of the day.
